Ever since the agitation of Telangana started, the business of the movies of Tollywood has suffered like never before. The frequent bandhs which paralused public life had dent big holes into industry’s coffers. Added to that some of the biggies which were slated to release in the Sankranti season had to face the ire of Telangana supporters because of the affiliations of the actors and producers towards the pro-United Andhra movement.
After a brief lull period of 8 months, of which only one big film, “Simha” got released, the time has now come for another round of T-ire on Tollywood. The first among the biggie batch which got released was much delayed “Komaram Puli.” But controversy surrounded that movie when T-supporters clashed with distributors and theater owners for cancellation of shows as the film belonged to the Chiranjeevi family which stood in support of United Andhra Pradesh.
But when Chiranjeevi came out with a statement that OU JAC had asked for money for the safe release of “Komaram Puli” much of the industry folks who want their names to be anonymous felt relieved as they say that they too have had such similar experiences with the OU JAC and other Telangana fronts. They say that Chiranjeevi has taken a bold stand by coming out in the open and daring the TRS and its cohorts. The things which were being talked about in the hushed tones have come out with Chiru’s stand.
Some of the industry people are now looking at Chiru as their saviour and are willing to lock horns with the blackmailing mafia who are threatening producers in the name of Telangana. Chiru has become a leader and hope for these producers. Let’s hope that he would continue the things which he has set up in motion.
