August 9th happened to be the birthday of Prince Mahesh Babu and each and every fan of this Superstar had celebrated the day as if it was their own. Even the media and the news channels dedicated the day in telecasting movies and discussing Mahesh’s new film “Khaleja” and his promotion of “Thumbs Up.”
But one thing which the telugu media has completely forgotten is that August 9th is the day when one of the most famous icons of Telugu Cinema was also born. His mere presence itself made people laugh and yearn for more of his laughs. He is none other than Late Relangi Venkataramayya alias Relangi. He was born on August 9th 1910 and had he been alive, he would have completed a centenary. He is one such icon of Telugu Cinema that the history of the Industry cannot be called as complete without dedicating a page for him.
But call it apathy or the trend of the times, the legend was completely ignored by the film industry and the media alike. Even those who care for the preservation of the history of Telugus ignored this fact. Surprisingly there were no comedians who idolise Relangi to draw an inference on him.
Shame for Tollywood and Media alike. They should know that there were certain people who live in the minds and hearts of the people rather than just appear for 2 or 3 minutes on the small screen. An effort to remember the forgotten legends would be a service for their contributions to the society they lived in.
