A National Shame named CWG

It was in year 2000 I think that India was chosen as the host for the 2010 edition of the Commonwealth Games. The images of Sunil Gavaskar and Suresh Kalmadi celebrating the announcement is still vivid in my memory. The announcement brought in much cheer for sport lovers. Finally, India was chosen as a venue for a sporting event which would boost the sporting scene for budding athletes. And worldclass stadia and infrastructure would be created for the cause.
But a decade later and just 2 months before the real games begin, there is an air of despodency in the faces of all the sport lovers like me. Why? Because the political and bureaucratic establishment of the country have made a mess of things and the games itself are going to become a major slap in the face for entire country. Is this how a self-styled emerging superpower going to conduct its affairs?
The Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games in the country was involved in a slanging match with the Common Wealth Games Federation for the past two years with regard to the completion of works. But we felt, that we can manage by the end. But the end is coming and the construction activities are still going on. It is not just the incomplete construction activities but the allegations of misappropriation of funds which are gaining much shrill with each passing day. One each day is opening with another scam of gigantic proportions. All those who felt that India and its officials would at least begin a new chapter by conduting the games and its works fairly were disappointed as the familiar tale of corruption and slander match followed.

And India is supposed to the next Superpower. It is still two months and the sub-standard stadia and incomplete housing facilities of New Delhi for athletes present a great scope for National Shame. Well blame the team of Suresh Kalmadi and MS Gill for this state of affairs.
Can India ever cover itself in CWG glory? It is very grim situation.
