Curbing freedom: The religious way

Since ages, the human race has divided itself into different groups. Some on the basis of their gender, some on the basis of the place of their birth and mostly on the basis of religion. But what one fails to understand is that these divisions cause people to shackle themselves with some lame laws and personal prejudices and curtail their own freedom.
If one observes the restrictions being imposed by religious clerics of late, then one would feel that following a religion would curtail his/her freedom rather than provide a feeling of security. Check this for example:
A cleric issues a fatwa that Islam does not allow women to work in proximity with male counterparts. Also it bans women earning money. Another stupid fatwa is that Muslims should not work in Banks and other financial related co-operative societies where interest is earned.
A cleric should limit himself to propogate the spirituality of his religion rather than impose restrictions on the day to day lives of the people following the religion. Every religion is posing some kind of a restrictions on its followers and killing the freedom. It is high time people should think of their personal freedom rather than just follow the herd.
