Curtain Raiser: RANN, ISHQIYA

Bollywood is growing. This fact is reiterated by every person who follows the trends of Bollywood for the past 5-6 years. The change has been profound and the themes have gone as diverse as chalk and cheese. The same way the releases of this week, ISHQIYA and RANN are also as diverse. None would have expected films of this kind to be released a decade ago.

While RANN comes from the stable of RGV, ISHQIYA comes from the school of Vishal Bharadwaj. These two film makers have revolutionised the way films are made and this weekend we have a healthy competition from these films to vie for audience attention.

RANN, focuses on the travails of an upright TV baron in times of cut-throat competition. The film is expected to bring back that lost name for RGV as a creator. This film is the next release of Amitabh after the delightful PAA. Everyone hopes that this serious film would emerge as a profit-making venture.
ISHQIYA is a rural entertainer which revolves around the lives of three people, Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan. The film is said to have a different take on relationships with lot of expletives being spoken. Vishal Bharadwaj has co-scripted this film along with the first-time director, Abhishek Chaubey.
Well, the stage is set for the audience to approve the wiles of these film makers and their offerings. Lap it up this weekend.

Tail-piece:
The colorised Telugu epic, MAYABAZAAR is also releasing this weekend to add more zing to the competition. Make your choice now.
