Sorry state of Indian Hockey

The latest turmoil in the sporting arena this time around is the controversy surrounding the Indian Hockey team. The national team which was supposed to train for the coming World Championships are refusing to train saying that they are not paid their sponsorship dues.

Hockey India, which started overseeing the affairs of the National sport is saying that there is severe cash crunch in the sport which is forcing them to take these steps. But the players are in no mood to listen and say that they are being exploited by the corruption in the governing body.
The world championship of Hockey is fast approaching but the national players are adamant on their stand and the time has come now for the Government to intervene and resolve the matter. Sure there must be some corporate bodies who can take care of the player’s interests and settle the dispute.
But some analysts feel, that this explosive situation was warranted by Hockey India itself as it dilly-dallied on the payment issue. The players have every right to feel cheated and the stand taken by them is receiving huge public support.
One feels that it is the failure of Hockey India to bring this situation to this level. Instead of taking care of players’ concerns, the board is busy playing petty politics. The administrators should learn from Cricket officials on how to manage the show.
It would be a miracle from every quarter if Indian Hockey regains the top spot it enjoyed during its hey days.
